4 cops die in Naxal mine blast
Oct. 4: Two sub-inspectors of the Maharashtra police and two CRPF personnel were killed when Naxalites exploded a powerful improvised explosive device in a marketplace when they were out shopping.
The area falls in Aheri taluka of the district, one of the worst-hit by left wing extremism in the state. The security personnel were shopping at Perilimili village when the explosion took place at around 4.30 pm. Their vehicle was badly damaged in the explosion. A rescue team and additional reinforcements were dispatched to the spot to trace other policemen who were accompanying them.
The victims were identified as inspector Nauroti Yadav and constable Anand Kumar of the CRPF 9th battalion and sub-inspectors Shashi More and Mahendra Mangul.
The incident came a day after 20 naxals including a woman were reported arrested from the district. They were arrested after a brief firefight, reports said.
In AP, Maoists escaped after engaging the police in a firefight in the Maddulamada forest area of Khammam. Sources said police attacked the Maoist camp on receiving information. The Maoists opened fire to cover their escape. The police returned fire but the Maoists escaped into the forest.
