31 Cong MLAs ask Gogoi to hold meet y
In what may be a serious embarrassment for the ruling Congress party in Assam, at least 31 MLAs on Saturday submitted a letter to chief minister Tarun Gogoi asking to hold a special meeting of Congress Legislature Party to discuss some urgent issues afflicting the state.
The parliamentary affairs minister Neelmani Sen Deka said that a group of party legislators have submitted a letter to him on Friday night to which he handed over to the chief minister who is the only competent authority to take a decision.
Refusing to define them as dissident leader, Mr Deka said, “They can’t be called dissident leader just because they have called for special CLP meeting. They are legislators from our party only.”
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Pradhan Baruah who led the delegation of Congress legislators said, “We have requested the chief minister to hold a special meeting of CLP to discuss various urgent issues that was afflicting the state.”
The controversial Congress MLAs like Chandan Sarkar, Abu Taher Baipari and Sanjay Subba who are the signatory of the letter said, “We are asking for CLP as chief minister Tarun Gogoi himself said that his ministers don’t obey him. We want to discuss these issues also in the CLP.” In the letter, which was carefully drafted, the dissident MLAs have not made any direct allegation on chief minister but said, “We want to discuss various issues including attempt to marginalise a section of Congress MLAs, slow down of development, vindictive action of police etc.”
