30 bookies partied before IPL
Around 30 bookies from across the country allegedly gathered at a Juhu-based hotel and partied before the Indian Premier League season 6, in a bid to build a rapport and earn huge sums of money during the tournament.
One of the bookies, who attended the party, has mentioned the details in his statement, which is the part of the 17-volume chargesheet that the Mumbai crime branch filed in the IPL betting scandal. According to the statement of bookie Chandresh Jain, he checked into Sun-n-Sand hotel in Juhu on March 29, 2013, along with his Ajmer-based friend bookie Bunti and two of his friends. Jain booked three rooms in the hotel. “On the same day, three bookies from Gujarat — Praveen Thakkar, Jitu Jain and Dinesh Khambat — visited the hotel to meet me. Khambat had told all of us that we should all come together,” Jain said in his statement. After Khambat made phone calls to all bookies, Ramlal Jowhar alias Nokha from Bikaner in Rajasthan came to the hotel.
