3 teachers held for beating up boy
A 14-year-old boy, Barathraj, studying class 9 in a private high school near Perambalur, created a flutter by making a false allegation against three teachers that they forced him to drink urine.
The three teachers were, however, arrested on Saturday for meting out corporal punishment to the boy.
When Raja, Sakthivel and Karuppiah, teachers at Sirumalar high school in Agaram Seekur, near Perambalur, were monitoring the boys during the study hour in the hostel on Thursday night, the boy, a native of Cholanmaaligai, near Kumbakonam, asked for permission to go to the toilet.
As the teachers refused permission, the boy is said to have urinated there itself. Angered, the three teachers beat him black and blue.
The boy returned home on Friday morning without informing the hostel authorities.
He told his mother Poongodi about what happened in school and was admitted to the government hospital in Kumbakonam where his father Desingurajan was already being treated for a fractured leg.
When the education department officials, led by CEO Mallika visited the school and held an enquiry, the boy’s allegation about being made to drink his urine was found “not to be true”.
According to sources, the boy, though warned twice, had allegedly used a banned narcotic substance on campus and even encouraged other students to use it.
The three teachers have been suspended and Mangalamedu police arrested them on Saturday for meting out corporal punishment.
