3 more DIGs in CBI probe team
The noose around the chairman of the organising committee (OC) of the Commonwealth Games, Suresh Kalmadi, tightened further with CBI inducting three more officers of the level of deputy inspector of general (DIG) into the probe related to CWG corruption issues.
So far, only one DIG was looking after OC cases, but now there are four such officers probing the alleged corruption cases related to CWG contracts. According to sources, the probe into alleged irregularities in the contracts by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Sports Authority of India (SAI), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also begun.
“The agency is expected to register fresh cases related to overlays contracts very soon. The CBI is also expected to make some significant arrests in this regard. Initial probe by the agency in connection with alleged corruption has prima facie found serious indications that there was a ‘criminal conspiracy’ between the contractors and the members of the OC,” sources said.
Besides, the agency is probing the reasons why some government agencies declared some projects as “urgent” for release of additional funds at the last moment.
