3 militants die in J&K firing
Three militants and an Army jawan were killed in a gunbattle in Panar forest of Kashmir Valley’s northern district of Bandipore on Sunday.
Officials here said that the gunbattle erupted four days ago and since the two sides were engaged in intermittent exchange of rifle fire.
According to defence spokesperson here, as many as 33 militants have been killed in different encounters with Army and other security forces mainly in areas close to the LoC so far in September.

Maoists kill father, son

Suspected Maoists on Saturday night killed a businessman and his son at Lachmani village in Koraput district, nearly 580 km from here, the police said on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Kapur Khora and his son Disho Khora, also a trader, of Lachamani village, the police said. A Maoist poster seized from the spot said the duo was punished for not paying due wages to the local labourers and selling liquor in the area.

Girl survives after 45-ft fall

A 10-year-old girl survived miraculously a 45-foot plunge from her fourth-floor flat here late on Saturday, the police said on Sunday. According to the police, Mandeep, a Class 5 student of a local English medium school here, was enjoying television serials while sitting on the window of her flat in the four-storeyed apartment. She suddenly lost her balance when she tried to sneak out.
