3 killed in UP floods, rain returns to Delhi
Three persons died in floods in Uttar Pradesh where all major rivers have crossed the danger mark, as rains on Wednesday drenched Chandigarh and the national capital after three days.
Two children died in UP’s Gonda district as one-and-a- half-km breach in Charsari embankment in Parsawal left about 86 villages inundated by flood waters. Another person died in a roof collapse in Azamgarh Tuesday night.
“A national rapid response team has been deployed to carry out relief and rescue work in 24 villages,” district magistrate Madhukar Dwiwedi said. According to Central Water Commission, Ganga, Ramganga, Yamuna Sharda, Ghaghara and Rapti were all flowing above the danger mark.
Rains were back in the national capital after a gap of a few days. The showers started at around 3.30 pm in various places of the city and the rain gauges measured four mm. The maximum temperature was recorded at 35ºC, while the minimum was 27.7ºC.
