3 girls killed in suspected honour crime
Three teenage girls, who had gone missing from their homes in Deoria district on October 31, were found dead and buried in a field in Nonawar village.
The killings are believed to be a case of honour killings and the mothers and brothers of all three girls have been taken into custody.
According to police reports, the three girls, Sarita (18), Anita (16) and Sunita (19), were close friends and were in love with boys belonging to a neighbouring village.
The girls used to go together to meet their lovers in the fields during late evenings and their relationships had become common knowledge in the villages.

Burglar held captive for two days

Nov. 6: In a strange incident, a burglar was caught by the members of the house he had broken into and held captive for two days. He was tied in chains and kept in a dingy room by the family and finally rescued by the police when the neighbours heard the burglar’s screams.
“He is the same burglar who earlier stole three of our tractor trolleys. He has even confessed to his crime. We caught him this time and decided we would hold him captive until he returns our three tractor trolleys,” said Kamal Ojha, a resident of Qaiserbagh locality in Lucknow, whose family caught the burglar.

Rohtas: BJP leader shot dead

Nov. 6: Unidentified gunmen shot dead Poonam Devi, vice-president of the BJP in Bihar’s Rohtas district, on Friday night when she was returning home after wishing her supporters a happy Diwali.
In another incident, a group of Maoists shot dead two villagers and injured two others in indiscriminate firing at Baratand village in Banka district on Friday. The Assembly polls have been conducted in Banka while they are scheduled in the last phase in Rohtas.
Devi, who was shot near the Rajapur police station, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to the injuries before reaching, said SHO Arun Kumar.

Cyclone Jal hurtles to AP, TN coast
New Delhi, Nov. 6: Cyclone Jal was on Saturday hurtled towards south-eastern coast between Nellore and Puducherry packing wind speed of 110 km per hour and is expected to make landfall tomorrow night. The meteorological depression, that intensified into a severe cyclone this morning, lay practically stationary about 550 km east-southeast of Chennai and 700 km southeast of Nellore. The weather office said the storm was expected to intensify further moving west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu and south AP coast between Puducherry and Nellore by Sunday night. Under the cyclone north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south coastal AP would receive heavy rains. —PTI
