2G won’t affect DMK ties: Cong

The Congress is confident that the CBI crackdown in the 2G spectrum scam would not have a bearing on its alliance with the DMK, making it clear that it is committed to taking action against corruption and fighting all types of corruption.

The CBI on Wednesday searched the premises of an NGO linked with DMK MP Kanimozhi, who is the daughter of Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi and auditors of her mother and former telecom minister A. Raja.
The DMK, a key ally of the Congress at the Centre and in Tamil Nadu, has so far remained silent on this issue, party leaders pointed out.
Well-placed sources indicated that Mr Karunanidhi was taken into confidence before conducting the raids. ‘’We trust out allies,” said general secretary Janardan Dwivedi, answering a question on whether it would strain relations between the Congress and the DMK. “Let inquiries be over. I believe every one who was raising question had this (investigation) as one of the points. That is precisely being addressed now... If there is any doubt anywhere, it must be inquired into properly,” he said, responding to queries by reporters about the political fallout of this action.
“All these actions are part of the different kinds of investigations going on into the issue. As far the relationship with our allies is concerned, we trust our allies and this trust is always mutual,” Mr Dwivedi said.
Noting that the probe is aimed at bringing to fore the truth on the issue, he said, “It is not proper to connect that issue (of Congress-DMK ties) with this.”
“The Congress is committed to taking action against corruption and fighting all types of corruption. We are for clean governance,” Mr Dwivedi said when asked about the raids and their likely consequences on the fallout on the party’s alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu.
He recalled that party president Sonia Gandhi had made it clear during the CPP meeting on Monday that “there will be absolutely no tolerance for corruption and misconduct.” He said that the party has been maintaining this stand for long.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
