2G scam: Lonely Raja loses heart, smile

Jailed former telecom minister A. Raja of DMK appears to be having an 'empty nest' feeling ever since friend-turned-Hindi tutor and former IPS officer R.K. Sharma, accused in of Shivani Bhatnagar murder, left Tihar after acquittal.

Raja appears to have lost the zeal to even smile and confines himself to reading 5 newspapers a day. His apparent slip into solitude also appears to be due to the fact that most 2G scam accused have got bail.

Tihar sources said after five accused got bail, Mr Raja was seen worried in his cell. Though he follows routine, smile is missing since last month.

“He became a good friend of Sharma and often learnt Hindi form him. He became a bit disturbed after Sharma was acquitted. But after five 2G accused got bail, tension was clearly seen on his face,” said a jail official, adding that Mr Raja now talks only when he needs something.

Raja is lodged in ward 8 of jail 1 in Tihar and Sharma was his neighbour. Sources said Raja used to always sport a smile.
