2G: SC to review doubts of govt
Additional Solicitor-General Indira Jaisingh, appearing for the government in the 2G case, said there were also apprehensions about the policy on water resources, land acquisition for housing and on several other issues. “It is not only an apprehension, it is a roadmap,” she said. However, she made a categorical statement that the government has “accepted” the verdict for cancelling of the 2G licences in “toto”.
After she stated that the government will submit a statement explaining its doubts on the policy issues, the top court agreed to examine its “review petition” in detail and issued notices to petitioners Centre for Public Interest Litigation and Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on whose plea the 2G verdict had come.
They were asked to submit their affidavits on the points raised by the government. But the bench refused to issue notices to the telecom companies, whose licences were cancelled, saying that it did not think that their responses were requi-red on the policy issue.
