2G: Make Chidmabaram co-accused, Swamy tells court
Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy in a fresh application on Thursday sought the special court here give directions to make Home Minister P. Chidambaram a co-accused in the second generation (2G) spectrum allocation case.
In his application before the special Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) court, presided over by Judge O.P. Saini, Swami also said that his testimony should be recorded afresh as Chidambaram's name had emerged in the 2G scam.
Swamy said subsequent to a statement by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on February 24 in parliament, it was clear that former communications minister A. Raja alone was not responsible for allocating spectrum.
Spectrum allocation was a cabinet decision and Chidambaram, as the then finance minister, was party to it.
"They (Raja and Chidambaram) decided that both the entry fee and price of spectrum should be lumped together at the 2001 level and decided against the market price of 2007-08 for the entry fee. This is confirmed by the PM's speech," Swamy said in his application.
"Hence, as of now, I moved a fresh plea for summoning witnesses, including myself, and to make Chidambaram co-accused in the scam," it added.
Swamy earlier told the court that the charge sheets filed by the CBI did not cover the role of Chidambaram, who "jointly took important decisions" on allocation of radio waves.
Earlier, the court allowed Swamy to conduct his private complaint in the 2G scam.
He had also urged the court that he be appointed Special Public Prosecutor to conduct his case himself, but this demand has been turned down.
The next hearing in the matter is on September 26.
