2G bench to hear Ambani’s plea: SC
The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to provide a relief to leading industrialist Anil Ambani by directing his firm Reliance Telecom Ltd (RTL) to approach the appropriate bench with its plea against the order of a trial court summoning Mr Ambani and his wife Tina to depose as prosecution witnesses in the 2G spectrum allocation case.
As senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for RTL, mentioned the plea before Justice G.S. Singhvi, who was holding court along with Justice V. Gopala Gowda, he declined to hear the plea and directed the counsel to approach him when he will hold the special bench hearing matters specifically pertaining to the 2G scam. “It will go to the bench hearing the matter,” said Justice Singhvi, who heads the special 2G bench which also comprises Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan. “I will enquire with Justice Radhakr-ishnan when the matter can be listed for hearing,” Justice Singhvi said when Mr Rohatgi said there was need to hear the matter urgently as the trial court has already issued summons for calling fresh witnesses. Mr Ambani on Monday directed by the trial court to appear before it on July 26.
