2 women held for bank fraud
Two women were arrested by the detective department (DD) of the Kolkata police near Siliguri for their alleged involvement in a bank fraud running into crores. Rini Mitra and her sister Tanushree, the prime accused, are aged around 30 years and can speak English fluently.
They were caught by the officers of the DD’s anti-bank fraud section on Saturday afternoon from their parental residence at Champasari in Dooars. “The accused were hiding there. Our team was after them for the last 20 days. Both had finished studies there studies there before coming to Kolkata on the pretext of higher studies,” said a DD officer.
In Kolkata, Rini and Tanushree started staying on rent in Behala. “They took loans of Rs 1.48 crores from the Jodhpur Park and Rani Nagar branches of a PSU bank on March 17,” the officer added. To obtain the huge loan, they submitted forged documents in the name of a fake company - Lasen Engineering - which would give car and bank loans. Stumbling upon this, the bank later lodged a complaint with the Hare Street police station.In the meantime, Rini and Tanushree fled to Dooars. The sisters made so much money that they started investing in construction of bungalows in Dooars, official sources said. Taki-ng over the probe, the DD arrested five persons, incl-uding a middleman, who gave a tip-off about the culprits.
