2 military body workers arrested for ‘spying’
Two employees of Military Engineering Service (MES) have been arrested on the charges of spying Army secrets to Pakistan, Faridkot district police said on Sunday.
Details of artillery installations and a mobile phone on which they allegedly used to provide information about Army installations to Pakistan have been recovered from them after their arrest Saturday evening, senior superintendent of police Satpal Singh said. He said the accused identified as plumber Leela Ram and mason Bhola Singh — both posted at Faridkot Cantonment for over 25 years — confessed to the police that they had their links in Pakistan and were providing information regarding Army installations.
In reply to a question, the SSP made it clear that it was not yet established whether both the accused were having their links with Pakistan’s ISI, but it was established that the two were providing military secrets to that country.
The SSP also said a book containing detailed information about an artillery school was recovered from their possession.
In reply to another query, Singh claimed that Faridkot police had on the basis of its own information arrested the accused.
Terming the matter as highly sensitive, the police was not ready to disclose further information, maintaining that investigations were under progress.
The SSP also said that the police had recovered a mobile from Leela Ram and its SIM card was under scrutiny and all other information regarding his contacts in Pakistan will be clear once the police has full details.
