UP: 2 held in 1,600 fake SIMs scam
Two persons were arrested after over 1,600 SIMs, that were activated using fake documents, were recovered from mobile phone stores during raids by police in Jalaun district, officials said here on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operation Groups of Jalaun police raided Suyash Mobile Agency and Baba Mobile on Saturday and recovered 1,620 sims activated on fake names and addresses, they said.
150 photocopies of fake identity proof, photographs and application forms were also recovered from the two shops, they said adding two persons, identified as Santosh Maurya and Umesh Kumar, were arrested in this connection.

Woman sets daughters on fire, kills self
Lucknow : A 32-year-old woman committed suicide after immolating her two daughters in Maharajganj area of Faizabad district, police said here on Sunday.
Sangeeta immolated herself after setting ablze her two daughters Khushboo (5) and 18-month-old Pushpa in Jalaluddin Nagar village on Saturday, they said. While Sangeeta died on the spot, her daughters succumbed to injuries at the hospital, police said adding that the reason behind the incident was not clear. —PTI

Cop held for sexual assault on teenager

One JKP constable was suspended and arrested for sexually assaulting a teenager at village Siyaal in Udhampur district of Jammu region while four narcotic smugglers were held in Jammu city with 1.2 kg heroin worth over `6 crore in the international market.
Police reports said that constable Shyam Lal was suspended and arrested on Saturday when he intercepted a 17-year-old girl while she was going back to home in Udhmapur district.
The policemen sexually assaulted the girl who raised an alarm, following which locals caught and beat him up mercilessly.
Meanwhile the police nabbed four persons from Gandhinagar and Gangyal areas of the city on Saturday night and seized 1.2 kg heroin worth over `6 crore in Jammu city.

Rajasthan: Record crops likely this year

After years of meagre rainfall, it is for the first time in Rajasthan when none of the districts are facing a drought-like situation and farmers are hoping bumper crops. The state has received a suffice rainfall in almost all the 33 districts this year. According to agriculture department sources, since 1995 this has been the first time where all district have received good rainfall and got rid of famine-like situation.
According to the Met department, the state has received 492 mm rainfall between June 1 to September 4, higher than the average 466 mm. “We are hopeful of bumper kharif crops due to good rains, says an agriculture officer. The formal announcement will be made only after revenue department’s data collection.
