2 govt men in Delhi kidnap-rape bid; 5 held
In yet another incident of crime against women, five persons, including a constable of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and another working with the defence ministry, tried to kidnap and rape a 24-year-old woman in their Alto car.
The incident occurred in Bawana area of Outer Delhi on December 31. A police source said they had planned to celebrate the New Year with a girl and liquor, but were held by local residents after the woman raised an alarm. The accused, who were inebriated, were handed over to the police, which arrested them. The police got a call about the incident at around 9.30 pm. The police has seized the Alto car used in the crime.
The police said the accused were identified as Mahinder (28), Sumit (25), Rajesh (22), Gopal (22) and Basant (33), all from Sonepat, Haryana.
“Basant is posted with revenue intelligence while Gopal works at the defence ministry,” said a police source. The source said the victim and her husband Sonu had taken agricultural land on contract for farming. The victim lives in Bawana area, near the contracted land. The source said her husband Sonu had gone to the market and she was alone when the accused struck.
“The accused approached the woman and dragged her into their car, but she resisted. They then thrashed her and tore her clothes. She shouted for help and her in-laws, Roshni Devi and Nafe Singh, who were working on the land, rushed to her rescue. Local residents beat up the accused and called a PCR to report the incident,” said the source.
The source said the Narela police reached the spot and later an FIR was filed at Bawana police station. The accused and victim were taken to a government hospital where a medical examination found alcohol in the accused.
The police has registered an FIR under IPC Sections 452 (house trespass), 354 (molestation), 365 (kidnapping), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (common intention). The police said Basant had taken the car from a friend who the police would soon call. The accused were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
