15.3% drop in poverty since 2004
India’s poverty ratio has declined sharply by 15.3 per cent in 2011-12 from 37.2 per cent in 2004-05, when the UPA came to power at the Centre after defeating the NDA.
Poverty data released by the Planning Commission on Tuesday incidentally used the same Tendulkar method that the government junked in March 2012 after a huge controversy.
