Is 11.11.11 special? No big deal, say stargazers

While many people think that Friday, which is 11.11.11 (a sequence that will happen again only a century later) makes the day particularly auspicious, a number of astrologers feel that it’s just another day.

At 11 minutes and 11 seconds past 11 am on 11.11.11, digital clocks will read 11:11:11:11:11:11! Astrologers, however, say that fancy numbers don’t make a day auspicious in any way, and people should treat Friday as any other day.
Says astrologer D. Nagarjuna Sharma: “It should have been a great day, but due to a variety of reasons there’s nothing special about it. True, some people believe it’s a great day and are conducting marriages or planned to give birth. But it’s not a bad day or a good day as such.”
S. Raj Kumar, who is getting married on November 13, says: “The date 11.11.11 looks very attractive, but when we asked astrologers, they said the day was nothing special and even highlighted a few things happening in the past few months. To avoid trouble we decided to wed on November 13.”
While some couples have planned to have Caesarean section deliveries on Friday, many others have actually shifted delivery dates. Dr Divya Sudharshan of Happy Women’s Clinic says: “We had one request for a 11 am delivery on Friday, but later it got cancelled. It’s apparently an inauspicious day, and it’s Rahukalam as well.”
The film world, however, has a lot banking on 11.11.11. Two big Hollywood films, Tintin and Immortals, will be releasing on Friday, and so will the new Ranbir Kapoor starrer Rockstar.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
