10 dead as rains lash north India

South west monsoon was on Tuesday active in Gujarat and most parts of north India as 10 people perished in heavy rains that caused a sharp fall in mercury.
Torrential rains lashed Kutch district in Gujarat since Monday evening as six members of a family drowned in flash floods in Bhachau town. The downpour resulted in dams being overflown, inundating low-lying areas.

In the northern belt, incessant rains continued to pour over Uttar Pradesh, where four more people perished in rain-related incidents, taking the death toll this season in the state to 64.
Raebareli recorded 48.4 mm rainfall and Fafamau in Allahabad 20.6 mm of rains. National capital Delhi, which experienced overcast conditions for most part of the week, finally received showers, bringing the mercury down by several notches. The maximum plunged to 29.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal, from 36.4 degrees Celsius on Monday while the minimum settled one degree below normal at 26.4 degrees Celsius. The city recorded 3 mm rainfall, but high humidity touching 97 per cent made people sweat.
Most parts of Himachal Pradesh experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, bringing down the temperatures by three to six notches.
State capital Shimla received overnight rain of 36.8 mm while Palampur was the wettest in the state with 57.6 mm of rains followed by Karsog 56 mm, Jubbarhatti 53 mm, Gohar 47 mm and Banjar 45 mm.
The Queen of Hills recorded a day temperature of 21 degrees Celsius against Monday’s 22.3 degrees Celsius. Una was the hottest in the state, recording a high of 30.2 degrees Celsius against 36.8 degrees Celsius the previous day.
In Rajasthan, widespread rains lashed most parts of the state as Dabok was drenched by 53 mm rainfall while Ajmer, Kota and Barmer recorded 36.2 mm, 27.7 mm and 13 mm of rains respectively.
Punjab and Haryana too received showers that resulted in a sharp fall in temperatures across the region. The maximum in Ambala stood at 31.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, while Hisar recorded a high of 29.8 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, and Karnal 29.4 degrees Celsius, down by four notches.
