1 killed, mines official hurt in bomb attack

One person was killed and three persons including an assistant director, mines, Kanchipuram, were injured when men hurled country-made bombs at the vehicle they were travelling in Somangalm in Kanchipuram district on Thursday night.

The incident happened at around 10 pm when mines official Sivakumar was travelling with his office assistant Sivalingam in an SUV belonging to Vasu, brother of local panchayat chief Sankar. Vasu and his driver Karthikeyan were also injured in the attack. Karthikeyan later succumbed to injuries.

Police said probably, the gang wanted to attack Sankar owing to a rivalry in the quarry business.
