‘Tired’ PM skips meet of LS leaders
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday chose not to attend a meeting of leaders of political parties convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on the eve of Parliament’s Monsoon Session beginning Monday. When asked about the Prime Minister’s absence, Ms Kumar informed that Dr Singh could not attend due to his “ill health”. Moreover, when contacted, official sources in the (PMO clarified that Dr Singh failed to attend the meeting, as he was “only tired”.

Sourav saves guard from angry mob

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly came in a new avatar. It was simply a real-life dadagiri which he used to do on the fields in his haydays. His mettle as the leader once again came out on the road on Saturday night when he pacified an angry mob which shoved and kicked his security guard Bivas Guha.
Mr Guha’s only fault was that he tried to disperse the mob, which blocked Behala Chowrasta to protest the death of a local resident, who was ran over by a lorry, so that Sourav’s car could pass through.

MiG crash death toll rises to 3

The death toll in the MiG-27 crash in Jalpaiguri rose to three with two girls succumbing to injuries at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri. The victims were Purnima Roy and Latika Roy.
The girls from Jalpaiguri received deep splinter injuries and severe burn wounds when the Russian origin aircraft had crashed at a field in Bhotputti village on Saturday morning.
“The girls, aged under 10, were admitted in critical condition,” Mr Roy said.
