‘Men behind 26/11 must be punished’
Foreign secretary Nirupama Rao on Friday said that “justice has to be done’’ by bringing to book all those responsible for Mumbai terror strikes. The foreign secretary, who is leaving for Thimphu for a Saarc meeting, will hold bilateral talks with her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir on the margins on February 6-7.
Ms Rao expressed hope that India and Pakistan “could come to a satisfactory conclusion about what is required for the 26/11 trial to go ahead. “ She was speaking to reporters after a 20-minute meeting with home minister P. Chidambaram.

Panel to examine management of defence land

Feb. 4: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence has decided to examine various aspects related to “Functioning of Military Cantonments and Stations” and “Management of Defence Land”, the ministry of defence (MoD) said on Friday. This is significant as it comes in the wake of the Army being rocked by the Sukna and Adarsh scams. “In view of the immense importance of the subjects and for wider consultations, the (Parliamentary) Committee invites suggestions from the public in general and experts/professionals/organisations/associations and stakeholders interested in the subjects in particular,” it was stated on Friday.

CWG aerostat to be auctioned

New Delhi
Feb. 4: The Rs 70 crore aerostat which was used in the Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies will now be auctioned. The auction is likely to take place in the last week of February. However, the date of auction has yet to be decided. The aerostat, was bought from Liverpool , UK.
CWG OC officials have confirmed that the proposal for the disposal of the aerostat from interested organisations will be considered till February 18.
