‘Games venues can hold future extravaganza’
Union tourism minister Kumari Selja on Thursday said that the newly-built infrastructure in connection with the Commonwealth Games would attract a large number of tourists in the future. She added that despite the negative publicity should not be a reason for being disappointed as more than 75,000 foreign tourists arrived in the capital during the CWG.
She also lauded the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) for “discharging its responsibility...despite racing against time”.
Addressing the inaugural function of the International Hospitality Fair organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Ms Selja said the impact of newly-built infrastructure is always felt post-event.
With new airport terminals, highways, stadia and other infrastructure, Ms Selja said that there was ample scope to go beyond the traditional meetings and conventions to sporting and entertainment extravaganzas.
Refusing to get into any controversy related to the Commonwealth Games Village, which has come under the scanner following criticism, Ms Selja said that the ITDC has discharged its responsibility despite racing against time.
