‘CBI is demoralising cops in Sohrab case’
In an unexpected development, Gujarat police chief S.S. Khandwawala and chief secretary A.K. Joti called on CBI director Ashwini Kumar and Cabinet Secretary (home) in Delhi to raise their concern about the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, which is being probed by the agency following a Supreme Court order in January this year.
Sources claimed they complained that the CBI was not acting independently in Gujarat and their actions were demoralising the police force in Gujarat.
According to sources, the Chief Secretary and DGP met the director of CBI and also the Cabinet Secretary and discussed the issue. “Our officials met the CBI director and the Cabinet Secretary and told them that the arrests of senior officials in the fake encounter case would lower the morale of the police force in the state,” a senior official in know of the development said.
He added that the Gujarat government fears more arrests of senior officials in the sensational fake counter case in which so far the CBI has arrested only one IPS Abhay Chudasama, who was DCP of crime branch in Ahmedabad. The Gujarat police had arrested IPS officials D.G. Vanjara and Rajkumar Pandian.
and a Rajasthan cadre official Dinesh MN for faking a encounter of Sohrabuddin and subsequent killing of his wife Kauserbi in November 2005.
