‘Cabinet nod to caste census a formality’
Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee told the Lok Sabha that the Cabinet’s nod to include caste in census was just a matter of formality.
“The government has more or less decided. It is a question of formalities,” said the finance minister. “I do hope that in the next meeting of the Cabinet, it will be endorsed and thereafter all other necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Pranab: I signed pact Monday

The government said it has signed a pact with Switzerland which will help India get banking information for tax purposes only related to Swiss banks.
“The new provision will be applicable only for prospective information and not for past information,” finance minister Pranab Mukherjee told the Lok Sabha. The FM said he and Swiss foreign minister Micheline Calmy-Rey signed the revised pact on Monday.

Prasar bill tabled by Soni in RS

Union information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni introduced the Prasar Bharati Amendment Bill, 2010, in Rajya Sabha. The bill was introduced to give effect to the recommendation of a GoM stating that all government officers and employees shall continue to serve in the public broadcaster on “deemed deputation” till the time of their retirement. The employees working under deputation will get all facilities at par with Central government employees.
