‘7 held in Spain not involved in 26/11’
Interpol has informed its counterpart in India that seven people, suspected of having links to terror outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT), arrested by the Spanish police were not involved in the 26/11 attacks. According to sources in reply to India’s Interpol, authorities concerned in Spain informed their counterparts in New Delhi that the arrested members of the LeT group used to steal the passports of tourists in Barcelona and send them to Pakistan and Thailand. Later, in Pakistan and Thailand the photos of the alleged terror operatives were pasted in place of that of the original passport holder. Probe by the Spanish police has revealed that the group was not involved in 26/11 attacks.
It may be recalled that the Spanish police arrested seven people, six Pakistani nationals and one Nigerian national, in Barcelona on November 30. Initially, it was suspected that they were linked to 26/11 attacks also. Following this suspicion India’s Interpol requested authorities in Spain to provide details about the arrested persons.
Sources further said, “The arrested persons are also suspected of sending money and fake identification documents, including forged passports, to Sri Lankan separatist group the LTTE.”
