‘2 groups to track black money trail’

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Friday that the government has set two groups, one to look into to the feasibility of an amnesty scheme to bring back money stashed abroad and the other to provide an estimate of black money and ways to curb its generation.

“The expert group on amnesty scheme will advice me. It will submit the report as early as possible,” said Mr Mukherjee.
However, Mr Mukherjee didn’t comment on the questions whether the amnesty scheme could be part of the 2011-12 Budget to be presented on February 28.
The other inter-ministerial group will try to give an estimate of black money in the economy and suggest ways for preventing generation of illicit funds.
