Facebook and Twitter can destroy marriage
Being active on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter may increase your social circle but it can also spell disaster for your immediate family.
A young working couple in Allahabad arrived at a Family Counseling Centre last week to resolve their differences on the cellphone issues. The husband had applied for divorce and the court had referred the couple to the counseling centre.
“Last year, I gifted an expensive cellphone to my wife and after a few weeks found her using the cell excessively. I presumed that it was an initial craze that would wear off but gradually I noticed certain behavioral changes in her. She stopped attending to domestic chores and would spend most of her time on the cellphone. Our 12-year-old daughter was also getting neglected. When I questioned her, she said she was active on Facebook and Twitter and was connecting with her relatives and friends,” says the husband who works as a teacher in a technical institute.
The wife, on the other hand, also works as a teacher and defends her activities. “Through Facebook and Twitter, I have discovered a new world where I have reconnected with my friends and relatives. Yes, I do spend considerable time on the cellphone but my husband kicks up an argument unnecessarily,” she says.
The couple, after a number of sessions with the counselor, has agreed to give their marriage another try. The couple, who requested anonymity, said that they would make a sincere effort to resolve the problem.
