Woman stabbed for dowry
A woman was admitted to Osmania General Hospital on Monday with multiple stab wounds, allegedly following an attack by her husband and in-laws after she turned down their demand for more dowry.
The victim, Sabia Begum, 22, was left at the hospital by her in-laws before the family went missing. Sabia underwent a four-hour surgery on Tuesday morning and remains critical. Her brother, Mohammed Mazid, said the doctors were shifting her to Apollo Hospital.
According to the complainants, Sabia, an MBA student at Shadan College, married Saif Mohinudin, 27, who works in Hitech City, on May 25 this year. Chatrinaka police have registered a case of dowry, harassment and attempt to murder against Saif and his parents. Mazid, the victim’s brother, said: “We got a call from my brother-in-law on Monday. He said they had stabbed Sabia, and that she was in hospital.”
Stabbed on the thigh, head, stomach, legs, abdomen and other places, Mazid said she was extremely critical.
According to the complaint, Sabia’s family gave 40 tolas of gold, 1 kg silver, Rs 1 lakh cash and other valuables as dowry. The couple was “happy” for the first fortnight, but Sabia’s in-laws pressurised her for more money later, the complaint stated.
