Woman named in 67 offences held with 80 tolas of gold
Vanasthalipuram police recovered stolen stocks of 80 tolas of gold ornaments from the notorious thief Mankamma, a leading member of the Kondamma gang. According to police, they arrested the 40-year-old woman for two weeks and produced her before a court which sent her first to judicial custody and later to police custody. Based on their interrogation, police could lay hands on the valuables she stole and she was later put under an extended police remand.
During the interrogations, the woman revealed that she had committed as many as 67 offences. Police recovered 80 tolas of gold from her possession and, based on her confession, frozen her bank accounts in which she had altogether having a deposit of Rs 37 lakh. The Kondamma gang consists of over 150 thieves. The woman hails from Tadepally in Guntur district. Previously, she had been arrested by Charminar police. Two members of the gang had been arrested with a stock of 5-kg of ganja in May last, police said.
