Web problems for NET aspirants in AP
National Eligibility Test aspirants are facing severe problems due to the technical glitches in the University Grants Commission website. A large number of students have been unable to submit their applications online, despite the extension of the due date from April 30 to May 2, as the website problem has not yet been resolved.
“I have been trying to log on to the UGC website to fill the NET online application for an entire week now,” said P. Shwetha, a NET aspirant. She explained: “The link to the website does not open. Even if it opens, it crashes before we can submit the online application form.” B. Ved Prakash, a PG student of OU, said: “We are thankful to UGC for extending the date from April 30 to May 2. But it is of little use when the website problem has yet to be rectified.”
The demand for the NET has increased significantly since 2010 when the UGC made it mandatory for candidates to clear the NET to be eligible for appointment as lecturers in universities and PG colleges. Around 10,000 students from Andhra Pradesh take the NET, which is held twice a year, June and December. The UGC officials, however, clarified that the problem had occurred due to the server being unable to take the excess load of a large number of users. They stated that the problem had now been rectified, and that the exam was scheduled for June 24 this year.
