Wary, TRS to scuttle YSRC ‘adventurism’
The brief honeymoon between the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the YSR Congress seems to be over.
The TRS, which expected the YSRC to focus only in Seemandhra and stay out of Telangana, is now furious over YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi’s proposed deeksha for the cause of weavers in Sircilla, as it suspects the protest is an attempt to make inroads into Telangana. TRS leadership has decided to scuttle the deeksha in Sircilla on July 23, lest the YSRC gets a foothold there.
Earlier, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was forced to beat a hasty retreat when he tried to visit Mahbubabad in Warangal district during the peak of the Telangana movement. However, things calmed down after a reported understanding between the two parties. Jagan’s peaceful dharnas in Armoor and in Hyderabad gave credence to these reports. But the YSRC gave a scare to the TRS in Parkal where party nominee Konda Surekha lost by a slender margin in the recent bypolls.
The proposed deeksha has left the TRS and Sircilla MLA K.T. Rama Rao fuming. “We will not allow Ms Vijayalakshmi to hold deeksha till she spells out her party’s stand on Telangana. Why doesn’t she take up deeksha in Dharmavaram where weavers are suffering just as much?” asks Mr Rama Rao.
However, YSRC leader Bajireddy Goverdhan den-ies the charge. “The deeksha is not politically motivated, as alleged,” he said.
