Villa owners seek relief

Boulder Hills Villa Owners Association has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking a revision of its order directing them to deposit Rs 15,000 per square yard with the APIIC for registration of their plots.

The Boulder Hills project was developed by the Emaar Properties Ltd and the CBI is probing the irregularities in the sale of plots and villas by the company. The villa owners told the court that there are around 100 villas in the project and the extent of each villa is around 1,200 sq. yd. By virtue of the court order, each of the owners will have to deposit around Rs 1.80 crore with the APIIC.

The owners contended that the APIIC has actually lost only Rs 43.5 crore due to the Emaar scam, but due to the court orders, they will be forced to pay Rs 180 crore. The villa owners said they are facing a financial crunch and asked the court to allow them to compensate the loss of Rs 43. 5 crore incurred by the APIIC due to the Emaar scam. They pointed out that they had purchased the villas at a cost of Rs 5,000 per sq. yd. and urged the court to allow them to pay Rs 4,000 per sq. yd. as additional cost instead of Rs 15, 000 per sq. yd.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
