Two-hour scheduled power cuts reimposed
Two-hour scheduled power cuts are back to try the patience of citizens, in addition to the two to four hours of unscheduled cuts, with the power shortage touching 80 MU due to technical snags in two units of the NTPC. The Central discom officials have been imposing unannounced cuts for hours together, over and above the announced cuts of two to three hours in various parts of the city over the last few days. The load sheddings have been inconveniencing citizens for the past few days, and when questioned, the officials were first caught unawares about the unannounced cuts. They later said that those cuts too were scheduled.
West Marredpally area has been experiencing an hour of power cuts over and above the announced cuts. However, when questioned, the divisional engineer for the area said that he was unaware of the cuts. “There may be disturbances of 10 to 15 minutes due to feeder breakdowns, but we are unaware of any one-hour cut apart from those that are announced daily,” said divisional engineer P. Ganesh. He however added that two hours of scheduled cuts have begun from Wednesday onwards.
Unannounced cuts exist in other parts of the city as well. Taking into account the scheduled cuts and the unscheduled ones, many areas are left without power for four to six hours. Scheduled cuts in other parts of the state imposed since February, which were never lifted, have now been increased by two to four hours. While the city is facing two hour scheduled cuts, the power cuts in district headquarters have gone up from three to four hours and in mandal headquarters to six hours now.
