TRS, BJP fight heats up
The war of words between the TRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party reached high decibel levels in the run up to Parkal byelections with BJP leaders stepping up the attack on the TRS with regard to Telangana.
“The defeat of the BJP candidate in Parkal will cause immense damage to the Telangana movement. If the TRS wins there is no chance of getting Telangana whereas a win by the BJP will ensure Telangana,” said party national secretary K. Laxman. He alleged that fearing a rout in the bypoll, the TRS coerced the TJAC to support its candidate, which was wrong. The BJP is pulling out all the stops to launch a venomous attack against rivals TRS, the YSR Congress and the Telugu Desam. In fact, BJP president G. Kishan Reddy, who is camping at Parkal, attacked TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao for taking people for a ride on the Telangana issue, promising to get statehood within six months' time.
“The BJP win in Mahbubnagar has raised hopes of Telangana. People are also thinking about BJP’s crucial support. The TRS has won several elections, but failed to get Telangana. The TJAC should rethink its support to TRS. The BJP can get Telangana, the TRS cannot,” Mr Kishan Reddy said.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javedkar undertook campaigning in Warangal, demanding the granting of statehood to Telangana. Meanwhil, TRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and Shravan accused the BJP of having links with the YSR Congress and trying to ensure victory for its candidate Konda Surekha. “The BJP presence is only to help the YSR Congress. Why is BJP contesting the polls despite the TJAC’s findings that only TRS can win,” Mr Rama Rao said.
