TRS activists protest high corporate college fees
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti Vidyarthi Vibhagam (TRSV) on Monday protested outside the Intermediate Board office in the city against the high fee structure of corporate colleges across the state and demanded that the state government should control and reframe the fee system.
Parents raised a hue and cry over the “arbitrary fee hike” by private colleges. Balka Suman, state TRSV president, said corporate colleges in the twin cities earned close to Rs 450 crore every academic year by collecting high fees. They had no permission for hostels, but were running more than 200 hostels in Hyderabad alone. The colleges did not provide proper library and laboratory facilities for students and still demanded high fees, Mr Suman said.
The activists demanded that the government should immediately release Rs 5,000 crore to improve the infrastructure of 265 government colleges in the Telangana region and recruit 9,000 junior college lecturers. Tarun Joshi, deputy commissioner of police, central zone, said 184 TRSV activists were taken into custody and a case has been booked under section 151 of the CrPC.
