Trains collide in city, no one hurt
A coach each of the Venkatadri Express and the Akola-Nanded Intercity Express were damaged after the two trains collided at Kacheguda railway station in the city on Saturday morning. No one was injured in the collision, as both the trains were empty, officials said. The South Central Railway has ordered an inquiry by a high-level committee to probe into the reason behind the accident. According to officials and witnesses, all passengers had got off after the Venkatadri Express arrived at the Kacheguda station. The train was being taken for shuttling, while the Akola Intercity Express was being prepared for its next journey when the mishap occurred at around 7.30 am. The trains were moving slowly, at a speed of about 3 kmph, the officials said.
While two bogies were overturned, workers struggled for nearly two hours to save a third coach from being damaged. Sambasiva Rao, CPRO of South Central Railway, said: “The incident took place when the bogie hit a small bump on platform number 4 while being taken for shuttling. All security procedures were followed and there is no major damage, but we have taken serious note of the incident.”
