Top cop ‘forwarded’ passport of Bhanu
Gangster M. Bhanu Kiran, arrested for the murder of his fellow gangster Maddlacheruvu Suri, was granted a passport after Anantapur police gave the required clearance despite his criminal background.
Though Bhanu Kiran was living in Hyderabad and not in Anantapur, he managed to get verification of his personal particulars form from Anantapur in 2009. The verification, done by the Anantapur special branch police, was forwarded to the Hyderabad Regional Passport Office by the then Anantapur superintendent of police, Mr M.K. Singh.
Sources said that by the time Bhanu Kiran got his passport, he had committed various crimes and a case under the Arms Act was pending against him.

A CID official said on Sunday that the agency would probe how gangster M. Bhanu Kiran got clearance from the police for issuance of his passport. “He got his passport in his name. But he didn't travel to any other country. We are going to probe how he could get police clearance. We have to find out whether there is wilful omission or negligence,” said a CID official.
Bhanu Kiran was already working for factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri and associated with other rowdy elements like Mangali Krishna and Madhu Mohan Reddy by the time he got his passport. The then Anantapur SP and now Hyderabad traffic DCP, Mr Singh, disclaims all responsibility.
“I haven't given personally any verification certificate to Bhanu Kiran. In a regular process the special branch inspector and head constable were part of the verification of personal particulars form. As I head the district it passes through me. I don't know about the verification clearance to Bhanu Kiran. He was not staying in Anantapur so we didn't have any clue about his activities,” the traffic DCP said.
When contacted, the Hyderabad passport officer, Mr Srikar Reddy said CID officials were yet to approach him regarding the passport of Bhanu.
Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Department is going to write to the stamps and registration department not to alienate land or register land owned by Bhanu Kiran and his associates.
“A stop-registration order is being sent to them. We will probe the sources of income and flow of funds for banks for these transactions,” said a CID official.
