TJAC vows to march on, eyes 5 venues
If the Telangana Joint Action Committee’s plans are any indication, Hyderabad is all set to get choked with the Telangana march on September 30. TJAC expects lakhs of people from various Telangana districts to descend on the Twin Cities despite it being a Sunday as a show of strength for the demand for statehood and to send a strong message to the Centre.
It is scouting for a suitable venue in Hyderabad for the rallyists to congregate, one that creates ‘maximum impact’ and garners as much mileage as possible, what with scores of foreign journalists descending on the state for the biodiversity meet beginning October 1. Sources said that the TJAC was planning to select a venue from five under consideration: Necklace Road, Tank Bund, Indira Park, Secunderabad Parade Grounds or the Nizam College Grounds.
The Million March, which turned violent when agitators demolished a dozen statues of famous personalities from Andhra, was conducted on the picturesque Tank Bund. But this time around, members of the TJAC want another venue. In the run up to the march, the TJAC has decided to take out rallies and hold meetings all over Telangana, beginning with one in Sec-underabad on Sunday.
Though the TJAC is yet to seek police permission for the mega march, committee members made it clear that they would defy prohibitory orders if the police permission was denied. “We expect a huge turnout, especially from Hyderabad, to dispel the notion that Hyderabadis are not supporting Telangana, said TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram.
