TJAC plays cat and mouse with cops, shifts stir venue
The venue for the September 30 Chalo Hyderabad march has been shifted from Tank Bund to Jubilee Hills checkpost, the Telangana Joint Action Committee has said. The march will take place as planned on September 30 despite Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s request to postpone it in view of the upcoming international biodiversity meet, COP-11 from October 1 and the Ganesh nimajjanam on September 29.
TJAC co-convenor T. Sri Ranga Rao told this newspaper that the venue of the march had been shifted from Tank Bund-Necklace Road to Jubilee Hills checkpost, in view of the Ganesh immersion procession that will still be going on on September 30. He said that they were expecting over five lakh participants to come to the city from nearly 10 districts a day before the march. They will stay put in the city until statehood is declared, he said.
The TJAC plans to take advantage of CoP-11 to promote its agenda. Mr Rao said booklets on Telangana will be distributed to the delegates. “We want the delegates to know that the Centre and state government have deliberately tried to eliminate Telangana culture, from Hyderabad. When the delegates discuss ‘diversity’ we want them to ponder on Telangana too.”
