Tension as local train catches fire

A fire in Falaknuma-Umdanagar local train, stationed on Platform No. 3 of Falaknuma Railway Station, resulted in interruption of train services between Falaknuma and Umdanagar, and Umdanagar and Kacheguda for several hours on Saturday afternoon.

The incident brought to halt four MMTS and 10 general trains. Two coaches of the train that caught fire were completely gutted, while a third was partially damaged. Railway officials said there were very few passengers on the train, who were taken off safely.

According to officials, the fire most likely spread from the engine. The driver, who tried to douse it with the extinguisher, was unable to bring the blaze under control and it soon spread to the coaches next. The stationmaster spotted the blaze and alerted the city fire control room, which immediately sent a fire tender from Chandulal Baradari fire station. Joined subsequently by a fire tender each from Moghalpura and Musheerabad fire stations, the firemen took about three hours to bring the blaze under control.
