Tension as cops in mufti enter Nagam’s home
Tension prevailed for some time in Nagarkurnool over the entry of cops in mufti in the residence of Independent candidate Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Saturday. Four constables entered Dr Reddy's residence in mufti and sat along with other party workers. When Dr Reddy asked the party workers to go around the constituency, the four constables reportedly stayed put, raising suspicion in his mind.
When Dr Reddy questioned them, they tried to leave the place. In the meantime, some party workers identified the four as cops and alerted Dr Reddy. He pulled up the cops for their unauthorised entry but the latter claimed that they had done so as per the instructions from higher ups. The independent candidate immediately called up the circle inspector and lodged a strong protest.
“We thought that they were party workers. We never expect to see policemen in mufti in the house. How can cops in mufti enter my house without authorisation,” Dr Reddy said. As the news spread, DSP Ashok Kumar rushed to the house and tried to take away the cops, leading to a heated argument between him and Dr Reddy. Later, he lodged a complaint with the EC. Elsewhere, TRS Floor leader Etala Rajender condemned the highhanded behaviour of the government and posting of cops around Dr Reddy’s residence.
