Temple ‘thieves’ go empty-handed
Temple burglaries are becoming increasingly frequent in the city.
Two days after thieves fled with gold and silver from Uppuguda Mahankali temple, it appeared that burglars had struck again.
This time the Nalla Pochamma temple at Malakpet was the target. However, police reported later that though thieves had broken the doors and entered the temple, no property was missing from the premises.
Meanwhile, a few locals have alleged that it was not burglars, but some unscrupulous elements, opposed to the present temple committee, who were the perpetrators.
Acco-rding to the Chadhraghat police inspector, Mr Nayeemuddin, the culprits broke the locks on the front door and entered the temple.
“The offenders haven’t taken anything away. They disarranged a few silver ornaments and scattered the offerings kept near the idol,” the inspector said.
The incident was discovered when the temple priest came to the temple in the morning and found the locks broken.
Mild tension prevailed when devotees gathered near the temple, which dissipated after police assured them that no property was stolen.
The temple committee chairman, Mr Suresh, had lodged a complaint at Chadhraghat police station. Cops booked a case under Section 457 of IPC for trespassing, and have launched an investigation.
