The Cyberabad police rescued a six-year-old boy who was kidnapped by his driver within hours of the kidnap in Nallagandla on Tuesday.
According to Chandanagar inspector N. Venkateshwarlu, the boy Virupam, a Class I student of Delhi Public School was kidnapped at around 4 pm following which his parents lodged a police complaint. The driver Pavan Reddy got the boy into his car and sent an SMS to the boy’s father Sasidhar that Virupam is being kidnapped. The driver told Sasidhar, a group project manager in Infosys that the boy is being taken to Vijayawada and demanded Rs 10 lakh for his safe release. However, Pavan Reddy drove towards Bidar in Karnataka.
Chandanagar police swung into action and tracked the vehicle with the help of cellphone signals to Bidar in Karnataka. Following an alert, the Bidar police nabbed the driver and rescued the boy. “The boy was rescued and he’s being shifted to Hyderabad. His parents are also on their way,’’ the inspector said. The boy’s parents hired the driver from Janavahana Services about one-and-a-half months ago.
