Teacher tortures 6-year-old boy

A six-year-old boy who didn’t do his homework properly had his head pierced and bleeding with the pointed end of a pen, in a punishment given by his Maths teacher. The incident occurred at the St. Mary’s school here, police said on Thursday.
Matangi Hemant, a Dalit student in the UKG section, was taken by his parents to a hospital, where doctors sewed up the cut with four stitches.
The boy was pulled up and punished by the teacher on Wednesday morning, but it came to light on Thursday when parents and neighbours of the victim held a siege at the school demanding immediate action against the teacher, Uma.
According to some teachers, the Maths teacher hid the boy’s injury from the school management, and applied turmeric powder on the injured part before the classes ended in the school on Wednesday.
The boy’s father, M. Surender, an employee in a private hospital and resident of Julaiwada area, rushed to the school and had a heated exchange of words with the school’s principal J. John Daniel on Wednesday evening.
According to the father, the principal didn’t want to discuss the issue when he met him in the school. The principal asked him to “come tomorrow”, adding to the family’s anger.
Hemant’s mother said the boy was good at his studies and was top in his subjects in the school.
Meanwhile, based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s parents, the Subedari police registered a case under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC against the Maths teacher. When contacted, SI Kareemullah Khan, who has taken up the investigation, said no arrest was made yet.
Public anger against the teacher’s action was palpable in the area where the boy’s family lived. Social activists have demanded that the police pursue the case with vigour and book the guilty teacher.
