Teacher tapes girl’s mouth for talking in class

A girl studying in Class IX was gagged and made to stand for almost five hours for talking in class at the Sam British School at Noor Khan Bazaar on Thursday.

Parents of Syeda Sada Fatima, came to know about the inhuman corporal punishment when she returned home in tears with her tiffin uneaten. They have lodged a complaint at the Dabeerpura police station against the school’s principal and a teacher.

Had the right to do so, says principal
Mr Syed Mujtaba Hussain, father of Syeda Sada Fatima, said that the school’s principal, Ms Afroz Mazhar, had entered his daughter’s classroom at about 10.30 am and found Fatima talking. She apparently beat her and later with the help of another teacher, Ms Sajida, gagged with a piece of tape and made her stand in class till 2.30. She was also not allowed to eat her tiffin.

“When my daughter came home I noticed she was crying and her food was uneaten. When I asked her she told me about the incident. She was beaten for talking to a fellow student and the principal gagged her and asked her to stand in class till the last period. While the principal held her hands, another teacher, Sajida, put the tape on her mouth,” said Mr Hussain. When Mr Hussain approached the principal about the incident, she replied that being the “second parent” of the student, she had the right to do so. The Dabeerpura police has registered cases against both the principal and the teacher and is investigating the case.
