‘TD leader’ Samma given Congress ticket: Gandra
Peeved over the selection of Telugu Desam party functionary S. Samma Rao as Congress nominee for the Parkal Assembly segment, Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy protested at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on Wednesday. He was accompanied by his wife Gandra Jyothi, an aspirant, and scores of supporters. The protesters, armed with placards and shouting slogans like ‘Samma Rao downm down’, demanded a party ticket for Ms Gandra Jyothi.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy tried to pacify them and promised to take up the matter with the party high command. Later, the Gandra couple met the Chief Minister separately and complained against PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, district minister Basavaraju Saraiah, Warangal and Mahbubabad MPs S. Rajaiah and Balaram Naik, holding them responsible for Samma Rao's selection, as he is yet to formally join the Congress.
“It is at your behest that we started campaigning for the polls and have already spent `15 lakh,” they were said to have complained. “Congress workers cannot digest the insult meted out to us with the selection of a TD leader as the nominee. It would be difficult for the party to get a decent result in the polls. When the party offers tickets to leaders from the opposition, what message would it send to the party workers?” they asked.
