Tainted women cops face action
The city police department has decided to revamp women police stations following widespread allegations of corruption against women police officials dealing with dowry cases. CCS deputy commissioner of police John Victor took serious note of the incident in which woman sub-inspector P. Lalita was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. CCS DCP P. John Victor took the initiative and met Commissioner Anurag Sharma regarding measures to cleanse women police stations hit by corruption. All women police officials working in women police stations having a bad track record will be shunted out.
“We will be take action against those facing allegations of corruption. We are following the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in dealing with dowry harassment cases. Even if the complainant names other family members of the accused, arrests or charge-sheets will be filed only after investigations are carried out,” DCP John Victor said, There are three women police stations in the city at Begumpet, Central Crime Station and South Zone. The Crime Investigation Department also has a protection cell for women where dowry harassment cases are registered and taken up for investigation.
