A tad of spirituality too on biodiversity meet
United Nation’s Convention on Biodiversity has confirmed a spiritual conference being organised by AP State Biodiversity Board on October 17 during CoP-11 conference. Swamijis, Bishops and Muslim clerics will be taking part in the side event named The Power Of Human Awareness in Safe-guarding Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’ Brahmakumaris World Spiritual University (international) and Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya(Hindi) will be the lead agency for the conference. Religious leaders will discuss on the references on protecting nature and biodiversity in the holy books.
AP Biodiversity Board chairman Dr R. Hampaiah said, “There are several versus in holy books like Quran, Bible and Vedas regarding the nature and biodiversity. As part of holistic approach towards conservation, we have decided to involve spiritual leaders too.” He added Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, Brahmakumari, other Hindu swamijis as well as Christian and Muslim religious leaders will be taking part. “Around 500 school children will be allowed to take part. Unless we rope in the religious leaders, the targets for biodiversity conservation can’t be reached. India is more of a spiritual country,” said Mr Hampaiah.
The spiritual conference will be held from 6.15 pm. “In earlier days, there was a deep connection between human thought and nature. The connection has become fragile. We will discuss ways of restoring and strengthening the awareness about harmony between humanity and environment,” said the chairman.
